Sewcialist Mini Challenge | White McCall's 7573

Hello, friends! I'm back with another top! Last month, Sewcialists had a mini-challenge going on Instagram and it pushed me to go ahead and get something done out of my queue. It was a color challenge where we would "spin" a wheel and we would have to sew something of the color that we were given. I got "white".... just like I wanted LOL.

So I made McCall's 7573, view C, and I cut the 12. I had been wanting to make this top for quite some time so I'm happy this challenge kicked my butt into gear.

The fabric I used is actually 4 different remnants from JoAnn's. For the solid white, I used 3 remnants of "Davi White Crepe Suiting". What's so interesting about that is that I bought the first remnant in April 2014 and the other two in June 2015. I was just buying remnants at that time just to buy so it's crazy I had the exact same ones in my stash a year apart.

For the floral lace, I used a remnant of "Wood 6 PP mesh flower white 50"". It matched the color of the crepe PERFECTLY. I would say both different fabrics are a bit of an "off-white" in reality.

While cutting out the main bodice, I had to reduce the width of the side seams to get all of the pattern pieces to fit on the different remnant sizes. So my top is not as wide, but I think I like it the way I forced to cut it.

To hem the armholes and the neckline, I made my own bias tape out of the crepe to keep the whole top "soft". Unfortunately, the crepe didn't press that great when it came to the bias tape/bias tape maker, but I made it work.

I hand-stitched the binding around the neckline, but otherwise, I followed the pattern instructions for the rest of the way.

I do like this top a lot, and I have gotten many compliments on it. My only gripe is that the armholes feel like they aren't low enough and the neckline is HIGH... like, in my throat lol If I make this top again, I would be sure to lower both of those.

I know this was a favorite when it came out. Did you make it?? What do you think about it? Sound off in the comments below!

Be back later this week with a surprise guest!

xoxo,
Tasha
