Merry Christmas!! - LBD & Simplicity 1325

Helloooo! I hope that all of you had a Merry Christmas and were able to spend it with the with people that you love and make you happy! I had an amazing day yesterday with my family and friends. The older I get, the less excited I am about holidays but I do appreciate having time off to just BE with my family. And I thank God for Jesus and all of the blessings that came with that gift alone :-D.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to make a dress for Christmas but I knew that I wouldn't have a lot of time. My mom and I were recently going through clothes and deciding what we could give away, when I came upon a stretch velvet little black dress that my mom had when she was my age. Just a basic tank dress. I decided to use it as an easy upcycle project and turn the dress from a basic LBD to something a bit more glamorous and appropriate for the season.

This:

To THIS:

The fabric for the addition is from Fabric Mart. It's "Gold glitter on black stretch mesh". I believe I got it on one of their dollar/yd sales so I think it got all snatched up because I don't see it on their site.

I used Simplicity 1325 as a base for what I wanted to do. I used the t-shirt pattern from Simplicity 1325 to make the crop top for my Two-piece set so I knew that it would be hassle free. I just cut the front and back pattern pieces about 8 or nine inches from the bottom of the underarm. I didn't feel like wasting fabric by cutting the whole pieces out. I constructed the mesh "bodice" with french seams throughout. The only place I didn't use french seams is where the mesh connects to the dress. 1, because I was on a tight schedule lol, and 2, it was really trial and error deciding where to sew those particular seams.

I removed the straps from the dress and decided to use them as binding for the neck and sleeves.

It ended up working out perfectly because I only had 4 tiny pieces of the binding left.

I topstitched along the seams where the mesh and dress met and that was it! I had a brand new and improved LBD!

This dress turned out to be one of my favorite makes of this year! I don't know when I'll wear it again but I'm sure I'll find something to go to lool

Me and my Mom :-*

SQUUUAADDDD!
This Christmas I didn't ask for much (we did secret santa on one side of my family and I didn't tell the other side I wanted anything) so I was very surprised at the amount of gifts I did get and the thoughtfulness that was put into them.  Some people even got me sewing related things!... sn: someone is gonna need to teach me how to draw!!

Oh! and if you don't follow my instagram, you may realize I have a new hairstyle lool. I'll talk more about that LATERRRR!

I wish love and peace to you and everyone you come in contact with! I'll be back on here before the New Year. Today I'll be working on one of the 5 UFOs that need to be done before 2015 as well as sitting around doing NOTHING lol. See you soon!
