A Quick Dress for a Gala | McCall's 8339

Hello, Friends! So, suffice it to say, I lied. lol I said I was taking a personal sewing break for the remainder of the year and then a few days later I needed a new dress. I was going to a Gala and I misread the dress code and thought it was cocktail attire. I had a dress ready in my closet for that, but something made me look at the event details again a few days before the gala and I realized it was actually black tie. I had one or two dresses in my closet, but not that I was interested in wearing for this event in particular so I did what most of us do... went to my sewing room to look for a pattern and some fabric lol

This is McCall's 8339, View C in a size 16.

A little Vintage Casual | McCall's 8194

Hello Friends! Can you believe that it's almost JUNE and the weather still doesn't know what it wants to do?! Now that my sew-jo is back, I've been going back and forth about what to make but I have to keep pushing back summer dresses, and it's a little too warm for the camo jacket I want to make lol.

But I will never tire of making dresses, I just needed one that would work for this awkward weather transition, but ALSO be multi-functional. I wanted something that wasn't TOO fancy that I'd feel weird pulling it out to hang out with friends on the weekend, but fancy ENOUGH that it could be dressed up for a classy event.

That's how I've come to make this dress that is giving me such a cute vintage flair!

This is McCall's 8194, View A in the length & sleeves of View B. I cut the size 16.

Unblogged Pieces of 2020

This year, I probably sewed the least I have ever sewn since I started 7 years ago. That's probably true for most of us though, so I haven't been too hard on myself about it. I blogged about 4 of the things I was able to push out but these are the few things that I never got real pics in and never made it to the blog.

Merry Christmas! | McCall's 7243

Merry Christmas, Friends! Here's to hopes that you are able to spend the holiday around people that you love and enjoy... and if that is not the case or possibility, I am hoping that you are able to find peace and gratitude in whatever situation you are in. The holidays are not the easiest times this year (for myself included), but I'm praying things will soon get better.

Today I am bringing to you McCall's 7243 (OOP), View B, in a size 12.

Mola Jacket | McCall's 7100

Hello, Friends! We are creeping up to the end of 2020 and BOY, what a year! AMIRITE?! I don't really want to get too much into it, but I DO want to get into this 4-year-old WIP (Work In Progress) that I had sitting around in a bag lol I saw the vision for it all those years ago and it just moved from corner to corner.

This project is my long-awaited Mola Jacket! If you've never heard of "Mola" before, as per Wikipedia "The Mola, or Molas, is a hand-made textile that forms part of the traditional women's clothing of the Kuna people from Panama, Central America". It's a form of art in Panama that has it's history in body painting. The indigenous Indians in Panama (Kuna) use a reverse applique technique to finely stitch the multiple layers of fabric together. The stitches are nearly invisible.

The Kuna people  create some of the most unique and beautiful hand-crafted items with mola patterns. I cannot remember with which trip to Panama I picked up the patches I used for this jacket, but if you want to see some footage of me enjoying Panama, fabric shopping, and spending time with my family, you can check out my Panama Vlog YouTube playlist here.

But before we get too far in here! This jacket is McCall's 7100 (OOP) in size Medium. I have made this jacket once before. The first time I made it, I fully lined it, but I didn't have the desire to do that this time.

Hummingbird Maxi | Simplicity 8635 & McCall's 7834

Hello, Friends! I'm back with my last sleeveless garment of the season lol It's about that time. Temperatures are consistently in the LOW 50's in the morning and I have my heater on when I go to bed at night haha.

I made this dress last month as a #MinervaMaker. You can learn more about the fabric when my post gets posted on Minerva.com in the new year. Today I want to talk about this successful pattern mashup!

And another one... in BLACK | McCall's 7922

Well, here it is!

I love how all 3 of my versions look so different. The foundation of this pattern is great!

Pink Linen Dream | McCall's 7922

Hello friends! I'm back with another dress I made this summer. I'm hoping to get all of these summer dresses out on the blog before the weather here in the DMV gets cold on a consistent basis. Right now, the weather is a massive see-saw between the high 80s and low 60s. I'm still grateful for the highs, by the way. lol I'm not a fan of cold weather at all.

Anyway, back to the dress. This simple, but pretty thing is McCalls 7922... again lol This time I made View C with the length of View D.

Stripe-Matching Perfection! | McCall's 7593

Hello, Friends! It's come to the end of National Sewing Month and I hope that you all were able to enjoy it the way you saw fit! I personally got a lot of projects out of the way and really started to find my personal style. And while all of that is great, the project I have to share today has nothing to do with that LOL

This is McCall's 7593, View A. I made this dress last year in September right before I packed up all of my stuff and moved. Then the weather changed and it was seasonally inappropriate. So it took a year for me to give photographic evidence lol

The Fabric I couldn't live without | McCall's 7922

Hello, Friends! The past couple of months, I have been in a phase in my sewing where I'm not really sewing for any particular event. I've just been sewing what I feel like at the moment, and mostly those decisions have been lead solely by my desire to sew up a particular fabric.... just because I like it so much.

So I've made this dress I'm sharing today. This is McCall's 7922. I cut the size 14 and started making View B.

Abstract Floral One-Shoulder | McCall's 7955

Friends! I'm back! Annnndddd with another top! LOL, It's good though because I'm definitely filling in my wardrobe holes :-D

A few weeks ago I had an urge to go dancing but I was going through my closet and wasn't finding anything that I was going to feel good in. So I went to both my pattern and fabric stashes and came up with something to whip up before it was time to head out.

This is McCall's 7955, View A in Size Medium.

Sewcialist Mini Challenge | White McCall's 7573

Hello, friends! I'm back with another top! Last month, Sewcialists had a mini-challenge going on Instagram and it pushed me to go ahead and get something done out of my queue. It was a color challenge where we would "spin" a wheel and we would have to sew something of the color that we were given. I got "white".... just like I wanted LOL.

So I made McCall's 7573, view C, and I cut the 12. I had been wanting to make this top for quite some time so I'm happy this challenge kicked my butt into gear.

The pants that didn't want to be! | Yellow McCall's 7726

You ever have a project that you're so excited to do and everything seems to be going well but then all of sudden, everything just starts going WRONG?! Welcome to my journey with these yellow pants lol

This is McCall's 7726, View B. I cut the size 12. The only modifications I made was to add 2 inches to the length of the pants.

7 months later, but I'm still sewing! | McCall's 7812

Hello Sewing Blog Community!

It has been quite quiet over on this corner of the interwebs and it's about time for me to break the silence!

I'm not going to go TOO deep into why I've been gone for SO long, but one of the reasons is that...

I bought a house!!

And between packing up everything and settling into my new place, the blog had slipped by the wayside. But if you don't trust me here and want to keep up with me in real time, you can just follow me on Instagram @thetelltaletasha

Now with that out of the way, let me show you something I made since I've been gone!

This is McCall's 7812. Such a cute top. I made it on a Tuesday night with plans to go Salsa dancing at the end of that week.

Abstract Maxi Skirt | McCall's 7682

Well, September has flown by like a leaf in the wind! Earlier this month, I went up to New York to hang with some family and friends, and I made sure to hit up my Sewing Auntie, Carolyn. We made plans to go to The Met so I decided that I was going to surprise her by making something out of some fabric she gave me the last time we got together!

My initial desire was to make a shirtdress because she has an extensive history with them, and it would be new for me. But after cutting out 95% of the dress and not being able to cut out the front bodice, I realized I had to switch gears quickly lol I was working on McCall's 7682 View D. Once I ran into the lack of fabric snafu, I decided that I would just make it a skirt.
