I made this dress in dedication to 2 bloggers/vloggers that we have lost this year.
The first being Domineque "LongHairDontCare2011" Banks in April
I first encountered LongHairDontCare2011 3 years ago after my last relaxer when I was looking for ways to style my hair without heat.
A STAPLE in the Natural Hair community, her goal was to present extremely accurate and informative videos.
I watched her styling and regimen videos hours on end hoping one day to have hair her length lol
I think I watched her straightening video 4 or five times before I was ready to take the plunge and straighten my hair over a year later.
Domineque was battling the autoimmune disease Lupus.
......and the second being Tamisha "Meesha Booh" Ridge in May
I first encountered DIYMeesha on random youtube search on DIY projects a little over a year ago.
She was a HUGE part of the sewing community, teaching women how to make clothes from items that they already had in their closet.
If you search the hashtag #meeshataughtme on instagram or facebook, you'll countless projects that people made from her tutorials.
She was always informative and helpful and made sewing super easy for any level seamstress.
Unfortunately Tamisha was a victim of Domestic Violence, leaving 3 beautiful children behind.
Fortunately for us, both of their families have left up their YouTubes and FB pages to keep their legacy alive.
You would never be able to tell on camera that these women were going through anything.
Their amazing personalities and love for their gifts and talents shined through above all else.
I say that to say, be kind to people. You never know what someone is struggling with behind the smile.
If you've made it to the end, thanks for reading :-)
And don't forget to go over to Vintage Zest for all the details of the dress!
See you in the next post!
xoxo, Tasha
Well Tasha!!! … I must applaud you for this post!… great sense of comunity and humanity!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a gorgeous dress. Purple looks great on you. I read about Meesha. It is so sad what happened to her. RIP to both of them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to those who passed. I also love your dress-- the detail with the arm zips is just awesome!
